Meet the Exec Board
Ryan Giertz - VP of Standards
Welcome to the Interfraternity Council Standards page. IFC Standards works to inspire chapters to strive for excellence with the Illinois Greek Initiative and governs our chapters with the Judicial Board.
The Illinois Greek Initiative is a system by which the Interfraternity Council can evaluate and reward its member chapters for high achievement. It is a tool through which the IFC can inform member chapters of what it considers the elements of an outstanding chapter, and by which chapters can display to IFC and the rest of the university community the high achievements of their organizations. Although completing all of the necessary requirements for the IGI takes a significant amount of work by each chapter, the rewards that are reaped by successful chapters in areas such as academics, service, and alumni relations far outweigh the costs.
Judicial Board, the judicial body of the Interfraternity Council at the University of Illinois.
This committee is comprised of eight board members and three investigative committee members. Their duties require integrity as they act as investigators, counselors, and judges. They are responsible for investigating cases of alleged fraternity misconduct, representing the parties involved, and hearing the cases in trial. Leading the judiciary committees is the Vice President of Standards with insight provided by the Vice President of Risk Management. Anyone can file a complaint with the committee, and each semester approximately 20-25 cases are heard.
The IFC expects its members not only to uphold the central tenets of fraternal organizations with respect to scholarship, leadership, service, and brotherhood, but to act with excellence in conduct, exercising accountability and responsibility. The judiciary committee serves to support this goal and to maintain the health of our community.
On this site, you will find our Judicial Board information, including our protocol, procedures, and charge of self-governance and justice. Information and documents pertaining to our Judicial Board is available. Chapters are also able to file complaints to be heard by the judiciary committee. Please direct any questions regarding the website and its content, alleged fraternity misconduct, or other relevant concerns to the Vice President of Standards, Ryan Giertz, at giertz1@gmail.com.
